The Vintage Perkins Story

An affinity for wood runs in the Perkins family. In 1825 Jonathan Perkins built a “Martha Washington” candle stand for his fiancée, Alice Chadwick, inaugurating a tradition of craftsmanship that has spanned five generations.

Michael Perkins started his custom furniture business in 1995 and quickly expanded to provide interior finish and fixtures for clients like The Timberland Company, where he served as the In-Store Merchandizing Designer until 1999.

When L.L.Bean discovered Perkins, through his furniture, they asked him to work on vintage window installations for two new factory stores. It was the beginning of a new look for the company. Today, Michael Perkins’ influence can be seen in the interiors of L.L.Bean retail locations nationwide.

In 2000, Michael refined his business and started Vintage Perkins, which has a two-fold mission: providing select reclaimed wood to clients for commercial applications and making custom tables, handcrafted from reclaimed wood.

Vintage Perkins operates out of Homestead Farm in Brunswick, Maine where Michael lives with his wife and daughter.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." -Robert Frost
