Cathance River Ecology Center

In 2006, Michael Perkins designed and built a conference table and benches for public use in the Cathance River Ecology Center in Topsham, Maine.

“Michael Perkins’ woodwork complements the mission of the Cathance River Ecology Center beautifully. We call ourselves “the building that teaches,” and our conference table is a lesson in sustainability. Michael’s work has helped raise awareness and create a market for wood that, two decades ago, would have just been thrown away. Our conference table is the focal point of the Center. It’s so beautiful we were initially afraid that children would damage the pristine finish. But Michael was adamant that it should be well used. He was right, the small marks and dents simply add to the table’s character.”
